Choosing the right plywood decides whether a project holds up for years or starts failing within months. The wrong grade in the wrong place means warping, delamination, or paying for strength you never needed. Here is a straightforward guide to picking the right sheet, based on the grades we manufacture and supply out of our Lahore factory.
Start with the job, not the price tag
The cheapest sheet on the yard is only a good deal if it survives the job it’s used for. Formwork, furniture, and a boat hull all need completely different things from a piece of plywood. Match the grade to the exposure and load it will actually see, and you avoid both early failure and overpaying for strength you don’t need.
Shuttering plywood — for concrete formwork

Built to be reused across multiple pours, shuttering plywood holds its shape under wet concrete and repeated stripping without swelling at the edges. This is the standard choice for construction sites, foundations, and columns where the plywood is doing structural work, not being seen.
Commercial plywood — the everyday choice

General-purpose and water-resistant, commercial plywood is the go-to for furniture, cabinetry, partitions, and interior fit-outs. It’s the sheet most buyers should default to unless the job specifically calls for a construction, marine, or heavy-duty grade.
Film-faced plywood — Gorjan vs. Poplar

Film-faced plywood is coated for a smooth, water- and corrosion-resistant finish, which is why it turns up so often on shuttering and exposed construction work. Gorjan film-faced sheets lean stronger and denser for heavier use; Poplar film-faced sheets are lighter and easier to handle when weight matters more than raw density.
A+ grade plywood — when strength matters most

Made from higher-quality raw material and inspected more closely, A+ grade plywood is the choice when a project can’t afford a weak sheet in the batch — load-bearing structural work, high-traffic commercial fit-outs, or any job where a failure is expensive to fix after the fact.
Marineplex — built for water and marine exposure

Rated for sustained water exposure, Marineplex is the right call for boat building, docks, bathrooms, kitchens, and anywhere the plywood will regularly get wet rather than just see the occasional splash. Don’t use a standard commercial sheet here — moisture will find the weak point eventually.
Hi-pressure plywood — specialised applications

Compressed under higher pressure for extra density and durability, this grade holds up well in demanding settings like railway wagons, heavy warehouse racking, and food storage, where the plywood takes constant mechanical stress or needs to meet stricter hygiene and durability standards.
A quick buying checklist
- Match the grade to the exposure: dry interior, occasional moisture, or constant water.
- Check the ply count and thickness together — thicker isn’t always stronger if the layering is thin.
- Ask to see the sheet, not just a sample corner — check for even lamination and no visible gaps at the edges.
- For bulk or contractor orders, confirm delivery timelines up front, especially for out-of-Lahore delivery.
- When in doubt, call and describe the job — the right grade is easier to confirm on the phone than to guess from a product name.
